The International Scholarship Program of the Aga Khan Foundation

The International Scholarship Program of the Aga Khan Foundation. A restricted number of postgraduate scholarships are awarded annually by the Aga Khan Foundation to deserving students from impoverished nations who have no other way to pay for their education. Scholarships are given out through a competitive application process once a year, with 50% grants and 50% loans awarded.

Scholarship Value

  • Foundations aid students with tuition fees and living expenses.
  • Travel costs are not included in AKF scholarships.
  • Master’s scholarships are granted for the entire degree course duration.
  • PhD scholarships are for the first two years only.
  • Half of the scholarship amount is a loan with a 5% annual service charge.
  • The guarantor co-signs the loan agreement.
  • The payback period is five years, starting six months after the funded period.

Foundation eligibility criteria

  • Accepts applications from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Canada, Egypt, France, India, Kenya, the Kyrgyz Republic, Madagascar, Mozambique, Pakistan, Portugal, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda, and the USA.
  • In Canada, France, Portugal, and the USA, applicants are originally from developing countries, interested in development-related studies, and without other education financing means.

Foundation Residency Requirements

  • Eligible nationals residing in countries with local Aga Khan Foundation, Education Services, or Education Board offices.
  • Local offices process applications and interview candidates.
