Financial Aid, Awards, and Career Services coordinate the work-study program. The Work-Study Programme, which coincides with the University of Manitoba, is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from women, members of racialized communities, Indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, people of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who can contribute to the diversification of ideas.

Criteria for Eligibility
To be qualified for the University of Manitoba Work-Study Program in Canada, candidates should finish the accompanying prerequisites:

Have documentation of a $2,000 government student aid package for 2023-2024, or proof of Indigenous band sponsorship, Metis Nation post-secondary support, or disability money for 2023-2024. If you have not received your funds, please email Work-Study so that we can devise a solution for your circumstance. (Note: Previous government help does not count; personal bank loans such as lines of credit and/or educational loans, as well as registered educational savings plans, are not eligible for this program.)

Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Manitoba for both terms (Fall 2023 and Winter 2024). Students must take at least 60% of their courses (i.e., 9 credit hours every term for undergraduate students). If you are a graduate student, please contact us so that we can assess your eligibility case by case.

Have an acceptable academic standing with a least 2.0 institutional grade point average in their previous academic session (new UM students do not qualify).

Be a Manitoba resident for the duration of the Work-Study employment period.

Procedures for Making Applications
How-to-Apply: Applicants interested in the University of Manitoba Work-Study Programme in Canada should take the following steps:

Step 1: Finish the Work-Study application procedure.

Step 2: Participate in a group orientation session.

Step 3: Apply for Work-Study jobs.

Due to financial aid regulations, all students must reapply for the Work-Study program each year.

To apply for Work-Study, go to:

  • Register or sign in to your current UMConnect account.
  • Navigate to Work-Study, then Work-Study Programme Application in the left-hand navigation pane.
  • Fill up and submit the form to request pre-approved Work-Study access. Following submission of the form, you must click the “Accept” button on the right-hand side under “Action required by you” to view and apply to job openings.
  • Documents proving your eligibility must be attached to the application. This could contain a copy of your financial aid package for 2023-2024, Indigenous band sponsorship, or disability money.

Records demonstrating your qualifications should be appended to the application. This could contain a duplicate of your monetary guide bundle for 2023-2024, Native band sponsorship, or incapacity cash.
