Scholarship for Emerging Global Leaders at American University. Successful international students who are focused on advancing constructive urban and social change and who aspire to procure a bachelor’s degree in the US are the main interest group for the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship. It is intended for students who intend to get back to better disadvantaged and underresourced communities in their country.

Scholarship Target Group:
- International students, not U.S. citizens.
- U.S. permanent residents.
- Dual U.S. and foreign citizens.
AU EGL Scholarship Value
- Covers all billable AU expenses (tuition, room, board).
- Doesn’t cover non-billable expenses (health insurance, books, airline tickets).
- Renewable for four years of undergraduate study based on satisfactory academic performance.
Scholarship for Emerging Global Leaders at American University Eligibility Criteria
- Preference is given to international students from diverse, underrepresented backgrounds.
- Minimum 3.8 GPA equivalent for 9th-12th grades.
- Demonstrated commitment to leadership, volunteerism, community service, and advancing home country needs.
- Students with a minimum of 95+ TOEFL iBT, 7.0+ IELTS, SAT Reading Subscore, ACT English, PTE, 120+ Duolingo, or Cambridge Assessment English score.
- Students enrolled in secondary/high school and graduating by June 2024.
- IB system students should graduate with a full IB diploma with at least 3 HL subjects.
- Non-eligible if: U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or dual citizen of the U.S. and another country.
- Students enrolled in or have begun any post-secondary studies at another university in their home country or the U.S.
AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship Application Instructions
- Complete AU EGLS application, Common or Coalition Application, and international admissions by 15 December 2023 or 15 January 2024.
- Regular Decision for Fall 2023, no Early Decision (ED).
