- Have a Vanier CGS portion and be selected by only one Canadian college.

- Engaged in a dual Ph.D. program, such as an MD/Ph.D, MA/Ph.D, or DVM/Ph.D. Whether or whether they had previously been enrolled in a Master’s program, candidates in this category are eligible for the 32-month window:
- Beginning on the day an applicant is formally registered in the joint program (including the Master’s component of the program), the number of months of study is determined.
- Enrolled straight from a Bachelor’s to a Ph.D. (had not been enrolled in a Master’s program prior); The number of months of study completed is determined from the date of doctoral enrollment.
- Formerly enrolled in a Master’s program but did not graduate.
