Students who are enthusiastic about mathematics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning from all over Africa are welcome to apply for the AIMS South Africa 2024: DeepMind’s New AI for Science Master’s Scholarship Program. Thanks to a collaboration with DeepMind, AIMS South Africa is now offering a new stream in its Master of Mathematical Science program called AI for Science. The software sits at the interesting intersection of AI and science. With a concentration on research, the master’s program is taught exclusively in residential settings for a year.

Requirements for the New AI for Science Master’s Scholarship Program

  • Citizenship in any African nation is required.
  • Must have completed a four-year undergraduate degree by August 2024 or a three-year undergraduate degree with an honors year.
  • Undergraduate degrees can be in fields with significant computational and mathematical components.
  • A master’s degree in South Africa requires the completion of either degree.

The Application Process for the New AI for Science Master’s Scholarship Program

  • Register at apply.aims.ac.za and upload the required documents.
  • Include a resume, motivation letter, transcripts of studies, written math problems, and coding errors.
  • The online application includes one coding challenge and twelve math problems.
  • Early applications are encouraged for prospective DeepMind Scholars at AIMS South Africa.
  • Shortlisted candidates will participate in the second round, an online quiz covering coding and math tasks identical to the first round.
