Island Collapse That Trigged Tsunami Could Not Have Been Predicted.

The report was published in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters by the University of Birmingham’s School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. When the volcano erupted in December 2018, 437 people were murdered. 


The tsunami is thought to be the deadliest volcano tsunami in Indonesia this century. Anak Krakatau, which is located in a caldera in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in the Indonesian state of Lampung, was formed by a volcanic explosion that destroyed the island of Krakatoa in 1883. 


They claim that current monitoring techniques would have been ineffective in identifying the enormous landslide and tsunami. The findings will aid at-risk communities near volcanoes, such as those in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan. This will be especially important as Anuk Krakatau rebuilds.
