After recording 100 occurrences of the flu at its Glassboro campus in the previous three weeks, Rowan University is urging students and staff to obtain the flu vaccine. Because of the timing of this outbreak, university authorities are prepared for a more severe flu season than last year’s light one. Despite this, there was a ray of light on Friday when an estimated 25 pupils came in for flu tests, compared to the almost 50 who had come in each day since the beginning of the week. In a typical year, the virus can infect up to 41 million Americans. Medical experts believe that the flu vaccine can guard against the virus’s more serious consequences. Although the intensity of the season is difficult to anticipate, one thing is certain: the virus will spread more easily than it did earlier in the epidemic.
