list of 2021 Veterans Day events for communities in central Wisconsin


Veterans Day is rapidly approaching. People in groups around Wisconsin are hosting events and ceremonies to honor and thank veterans for their service. While certain yearly events have changed as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus epidemic, several regional groups have found methods to keep many of their routines. The following is a list of events taking place on November 11th. Email Rebecca Logoff at rloroff@gannett.com to have an event added to this list.

The annual Veterans Day function will begin at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Highground Veterans Remembrance Park, W7031 Edge Street. Kari C. Doorman, a licensed professional adviser and the director of the La Crosse Vet Center, will be the guest speaker at this year’s event. There will be prizes. The Plover VFW Post 10262 will have a rifle event at the Plover Veterans Commemoration, 2725 Roosevelt Drive, on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The American Army Helper will host a potluck at the Plover VFW, 2970 Hickory Drive, in the early afternoon. After that, the post’s café, Jake’s Kitchen, will give a 20% discount on its menu from 4 to 8 p.m.

Visit Rome, WI will celebrate Veterans Day with a full ceremonial group from 11 a.m. to early afternoon on Nov. 11 at the Spring Branch Graveyard. After the function, at 12:15 p.m., a takeout-only supper will be served at Rome City Center, 1156 Snowcapped Drive, Nekoosa. Veterans who are confined to their homes in the city of Rome may request home transportation. Call 715-325-3090 or go to visitromewi.com for additional information.

On Nov. 11, from 4 to 10 p.m., the Region 1 Preparing Organization, 200 N. Division St., will host a Veterans Day celebration. Food from Purple Basil will be available until 9 p.m., as well as music, a bin pool, and larger discounts. The Wisconsin Rapids and Plover VFW posts will each receive a portion of the proceeds. From 11 a.m. to early afternoon Nov. 11, the Dreyfus College Center Graduated Class Room at the College of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host a Veterans Day celebration. The event will feature the college’s ROTC shading watch, a performance of the public hymn, and a few speakers who will share their thoughts. The Blood Focal Point of Northcentral Wisconsin will hold a blood drive from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at VFW Consumes Post 388, 212 E. Randolph St., in honor of Veterans Day. New givers and walk-in arrangements are both welcome. Call the Blood Community at 715-842-0761 to make your gift arrangements.

On November 4, 11, and 18, from 12:30 to 12:45 p.m., the Long distance race Region Public Library and the Long distance race District Recorded Society will co-host three “History Visits,” brief discussions about local historical personalities. The Recorded Society will tell the stories of three local soldiers every week in November to commemorate Veterans Day. The Visits Set will be available via Zoom, as well as the Recorded Society’s Facebook page and YouTube account. A Veterans Day appreciation function is planned for 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Veterans Dedication Park, 112 Second Blvd. S. The VFW Post 2534 will host a Veterans Day Spaghetti Supper at the Wear Knuth Dedication Lobby, 2711 Reddin Street, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 11. The VFW will provide an all-you-can-eat spaghetti supper with buns, salad, and dessert for $8 per ticket. Milk and espresso are also included, but if you want something stronger, there will be a cash bar with soda, brew, wine, and mixed beverages. Visit Post 2534’s Facebook page for more information.
