According to the National Weather Service, high winds and coastal flooding are possible in Harford County in the coming days. Harford County was placed under a coastal flood warning from Thursday to Saturday, as well as a wind advisory for Friday. According to the National Weather Service, major flooding is possible in the Baltimore metro area on Friday and Saturday as a large hurricane moves across the Mid-Atlantic and then New England.
“One of the most significant tidal flood events in the past 10-20 years is expected Friday and Saturday,” forecasters from the National Weather Service’s Baltimore/Washington division said. “Those who live near tidal beaches should prepare for significant tidal inundation!” While the tides are already high, forecasters said Thursday night that they will most likely be at their finest Friday morning through Saturday early. According to experts, all tidal beaches in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia will have high water levels. A coastal flood warning is in effect for Harford County from 4 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30. Moderate tidal flooding is a possibility, and major floods cannot be avoided in some areas.
Forecasters predict two to three feet of flooding, with the potential for flooding at the maximum round excessive tide. In Havre de Grace, high tide is at 4:36 p.m. and low tide is at 4:12 a.m. The quay office and adjacent areas on the Havre de Grace Yacht Basin flood at 6 feet, as do Hutchins Park and the parking zone at Roberts Park, according to the warning, which also states that the pier at Pier Number 1 may be blanketed with water.
Drivers must give themselves more time and not rush around obstacles or across waters of unknown depth. Harford County and many nearby jurisdictions are also under a wind advisory due to the potential for east winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 50 to 55 mph. On Friday, Oct. 29, the wind advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Winds are expected to be strongest around the Chesapeake Bay and the Patapsco River, according to the alert, which covers Anne Arundel, Baltimore, and Harford counties, as well as Baltimore City. The following areas may be impacted by the advisory: Baltimore, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Severn, South Gate, Severna Park, Arnold, Odenton, and Aberdeen.
Tree limbs may also blow down during this time, resulting in power outages.
