A strong sunspot hit Earth lately, and a Coronal Mass Ejection (think plasma) is speeding toward our planet, causing significant levels of aurora activity this week. As is customary, the problem will boil down to perceive ability. The storm is a G3 (on a scale of 1 to 5) and will be beneficial in some regions. This will be a fantastic spectacle for several states in the United States, as it is a KP 7 rated event (the KP Index ranges from 1 to 9) in terms of the aurora movement.
Locally, rain and mist may obstruct our search for the Northern Lights. The most evident way to see it would be with a clear sky, which will be difficult to come across throughout the upper east. We’ll keep an eye out for anything that moves in our favor, knowing that we have other opportunities to witness the aurora in the days leading up to the event.
